I’m pretty sure the relatives who will be receiving this gift never, ever check this blog, so here’s a preview for the first digital painting I’ll be finishing in, like, FOREVER. Any feedback is welcome!
This painting is about 11 years overdue. My Mama has been asking for an angel drawing from me since then, me being the “artistic” one in the family. For all the times I’ve tried, nothing ever looked good enough to give to these people I love so much.
So here’s the ol’ college try…

PS. This painting thing is seriously, so freakin’ hard…
When you get a chance, some info on what makes it so hard? I’ve seen you whip out good stuff in under 30 minutes! Your coloring is right on, what are you going to do to make the wings pop?
Gosh, my lack of color theory knowledge/practice for sure.
I want the warm light from the hallow, to not make any sickly greens with her white/light blue robes for the most part. So I’m using some grays and purples, and trying to to nuke any of the color!
The wings will be a challenge. There’s still MANY layers of shading to add to them (what is pictured now is called a “color test”) Then I want to soften them, like the hair around the halo, and afterwards give some of the halo highlights on the outside. It’ll be tough and probably 2 nights worth of work depending on how much detail goes into feather definition.
Cartooning I can do in 30 mins… but painting and color and actually FINISHING something… man I’m not used to this! @_@
Mama will love it! And I really like the new signature that you use!
